Wedding venues with beautiful settings for a civil ceremony

Wednesday, December 12th, 2018

As a wedding photographer being based in Northamptonshire is great! We have some stunning venues right on our door step as well as having lots more just a stones throw away. Leicestershire and Cambridgeshire are just a couple of our neighbouring counties with wedding venues I have also mentioned below. So here are a few of my favourite wedding venues with beautiful settings for a civil ceremony.

Bassmead Manor Barns-

Bassmead Manor is simply stunning. The estate is over 700 years old with the grade II listed manor house and farm buildings, and only a 50 minute drive with it being a Cambridgeshire wedding venue. As soon as you walk in to the ceremony barn you can see the history in the stunning oak beams and floor. The chandeliers and carefully placed fairy lights finish the room off perfectly, creating a fairy tale setting to tie the knot.

I loved every minute of photographing the wedding of Amy and Jake at Bassmead Manor Barns and would love to return for others.

Barton Hall Hotel-

Barton Hall Hotel is probably one of the closest wedding venues to me personally with it being located in Barton Seagrave. It is also one that I have been able to photograph multiple weddings at over the years and it never disappoints. A Grade II listed Hotel with lovely grounds giving lots of options for wedding photos. I think all couples who book Barton Hall as their venue will agree that the orangery makes the decision an easy one. Endless natural light for bright and airy ceremony photos and a relaxed space mixing indoors with outdoors for the drinks reception.

I already have more weddings to look forward to photographing at Barton Hall Hotel over the next couple of years…bring them on!

Dodford Manor-

Dodford Manor is an award-winning grade II listed restored barn wedding venue, surrounded by more than 20 acres of Northamptonshire countryside. This venue is always immaculately presented and is so versatile it works for all styles. Guests are taken through to the historic Mortain Barn for the ceremony. The Barn is kept as a blank canvas for couples to add their style for their day against the beautiful stone walls. A couple of photos below show a small glimpse in to a previous wedding captured at Dodford Manor.

Hothorpe Hall-

Hothorpe Hall really delivers on the wow factor as you enter over the cattle grids and drive towards the main entrance. The ceremony room offers a traditional setting to say ‘I do’ in with so much natural light flooding through the large manor house windows. Guests get to look out on to amazing views whilst waiting for the ceremony to begin. Maybe its the tall ceilings and grand features of the manor that make this setting so calm and relaxing for its wedding parties to enjoy.

Hothorpe is a Leicestershire wedding venue but still so close to home it would be lovely to return and make the most of a venue right on my door step.

Dodmoor House-

If you are wanting a romantic and intimate setting for your wedding day then Dodmoor House would give you just that. The Grade II listed, family-run venue is all about the personal touches for your big day. From the weddings I have photographed here the ceremony room offered a cosy atmosphere as the couples said their vows. You get all the features of a barn venue but with plenty of natural light from the various windows that open on to the patio. Another gem of a local venue that is hidden away in the countryside, and one I am set to return to for a 2019 wedding.

Keythorpe Manor-

Keythorpe gives an idyllic location for a wedding day in a rural setting. Set in the South Leicestershire countryside this is another venue close to home for me. The moment you drive through the gates you are taken aback by the well kept grounds surrounding you. The restored Oak Barn that used to be part of the stables, offers a rustic yet modern setting to hold a ceremony. Probably one of the larger barns I have photographed a ceremony in which is great for larger wedding parties. And although I have mentioned this a lot, its also great for natural light meaning nice bright wedding photos.

So these are just a handful of wedding venues with beautiful settings for a civil ceremony, that I have recently photographed. I have photographed many other venues for my couples in various locations over the uk and of course many church weddings too. If you are planning your wedding for 2019 or 2020 then it might be that this blog was helpful in showing you some of the options available in and around Northamptonshire.

Vanessa & Nick’s Pre Shoot

Friday, December 16th, 2016

It turned out to be the most foggy day of the year so far, but actually I like it! Here are my favourites from Vanessa & Nick’s Pre Shoot.

I have been lucky enough to photograph weddings at Barton Hall on a few occasions now, and loved the difference the fog made to the grounds during the pre wedding shoot!

It was important to capture Vanessa and Nick looking comfortable on camera, especially as they had mentioned how much they don’t like having their photo taken! And that didn’t take long at all as they are so relaxed as a couple so we chatted and joked all the way through. Take a look at their pre shoot photos to see for yourself…

I’m already looking forward to being back at Barton Hall in March to photograph their Wedding Day!

Sheridan & Matthew’s Pre-Wedding Photo Shoot

Tuesday, April 5th, 2016

On Saturday it was Sheridan & Matthew’s Pre-Wedding Photo Shoot at Barton Hall Hotel, Kettering Northamptonshire.

This year I am lucky enough to have three weddings I will be photographing at Barton Hall Hotel, Northamptonshire which will all be unique in their own way. This Grade two listed building is well known for the striking orangery to the rear of the hall which is where most people hold their ceremony and drinks reception.

This was a great chance to talk through some of the details of the couples big day and how they will be making the most of the venue for their wedding photography.

Sheridan and Matthew shared that they prefer more natural photos rather than anything too staged, so it was my job to get them relaxed in front of the camera so I could capture them look comfortable and happy together.

The most important thing for me when shooting multiple weddings at the same venue is to make sure the photography is individual to each couple, especially during the pre-shoots before the couple have put their stamp on the venue. So all though a few of the same areas around the hall are used, its all about adding new ideas to keep the photography fresh.

Pre-Wedding Shoots are a great way to run through any photo ideas ahead of your big day. It is also a chance for me to see how you are in front of the camera, what your comfortable with and what comes naturally to you. If you or your partner are feeling nervous at the thought of having your photo taken it will help with nerves as you will see I work in a relaxed way.

Pre-Wedding Shoots are included in all of my Wedding Photography packages but are still optional.
